The church first opened in 1967 and held its first service in January of that year. The church presently serves predominantly Japanese members. Japan Assemblies of God was founded in 1960 and the Hamamatsu Christ Church was the denomination’s first church in the Shizuoka area. Since then the church has grown and in 2006 the main sanctuary was added. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Japan.
