Porus New Testament Church is a church located in Irvine, Kentucky. It was founded by Bishop Ulysses P. Steward in 1935. The church is a part of the Church of God in Christ (COGIC), which is a primarily African-American Pentecostal denomination. Porus is a member of the Kentucky Southeast Ecclesiastical jurisdiction of the COGIC. The church is named after Bishop Ulysses P. Steward’s father, Porus Stewart. Porus New Testament Church was founded in 1935 by Bishop U.P. Steward. It was the first COGIC Church in the city of Irvine and the first COGIC Church in Estill County. Bishop Steward served as the pastor for 40 years and the church grew significantly under his leadership. The church maintained a strong presence throughout the years and continues to serve the community to this day. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Jamaica.
