Portmore Church of God in Jamaica is a denomination of churches that have locations across the island. The roots of the Church of God in Jamaica can be traced back to the 1950s when a group of people left their homeland in the U.S. for the Island of Jamaica, hoping to start a new Christian life. On June 4, 1953, the first congregation of the Church of God in Jamaica was organized with 18 members in Portmore, St. Catherine. This was the first Church of God in Jamaica, and it became known as Portmore Church of God. Since its inception, Portmore Church of God has focused its ministries on evangelism, discipleship and missionary outreach. The church is dedicated to its mission of evangelizing the lost, discipling the saved, and developing leadership skills within the Kingdom. Over the years, the church has grown and strengthened in its commitment to sharing the unconditional love of Jesus Christ and touching the lives of its members through the power of the Holy Spirit. Portmore Church of God offers a range of services such as weekly worship services, prayer meetings, Bible studies, youth ministry programs, and community outreach initiatives.
