Brief History:
is a large and beautiful mosque located in the city of Mashhad in northeast Iran. It was built in the 11th century by Abu Shahriar al-Ghazi ibn Muhammad ibn Seljuqi. The mosque is noted for its large dome, the intricate carvings on its facade, and its innovative design. It is one of the oldest Islamic monuments in Iran and is considered a historic landmark by the Iranian Cultural Heritage Organization. Architecture:
The current architecture and design of the Jameh Mosque of Mashhad (Jadeed) in Iran dates back to the Qajar period. The Mosque is composed of a large rectangular courtyard surrounded by two storeys of iwans on the East, West and North sides, along with two minarets. The overall style of the Mosque is a combination of traditional Persian Islamic architecture and modern Qajar design elements. The main iwan is located on the east side and is framed by two tall minarets. It is larger than the other iwans and is adorned with intricate stucco, ornate inscriptions and tilework. The central mihrab on this wall is topped with a colourful turquoise dome. The entire interior is lavishly decorated with geometric designs, arabesque patterns and marble and stone inlays. On the north side, there is a second, smaller iwan, which houses the tomb of Imam Reza. This iwan is decorated with paintings, calligraphy, tilework and marble inlays. The mosque features a large and impressive entrance, which is constructed of finely carved stone and is adorned with inscriptions. Inside the mosque there is a spacious prayer hall, with 28 columns and two large domes that have colourful tiles decorating them. The building also has four schools and several smaller prayer rooms, including a ladies prayer room. The exterior of the building is composed of brick walls, and has two tall minarets. The minarets are both fifty meters tall and are located at each corner. They are topped with turquoise domes. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.

This breathtaking mosque is easily accessible by public transportation. The closest bus stop is Tabarsi Bus Stop which is close to the Imam Khomeini Square. To reach this stop from the city center, you can take a bus or a cab. Alternatively, you can also take a tram from the City Terminus to the Hosseiniyeh Tram Stop, which is 5 minutes walk from the mosque. The entrance to the mosque is free, but visitors are advised to dress conservatively. Cameras and food are also not allowed in the mosque.
