It is believed to date back to the 11th century, when the Seljuk Turks ruled the region, and is built from brick, plaster and decorative tiles. It is one of the largest and most impressive mosques in the region and a popular tourist attraction. The mosque was renovated in the 19th century and consists of two distinct sections, a large open courtyard, and a separate prayer hall. The prayer hall has a rectangular plan, and its hall is covered by an octagonal dome which sits upon 16 columns on a raised platform. The dome is decorated with geometric and floral designs and has four small minarets rising from its four corners. The open courtyard has eight columned porticos which surround a central fountain, and the interior of the prayer hall includes a number of intricately decorated inscriptions and arches. It is one of the most famous mosque in Iran which you must visit.

Architecture:

The architecture of the Jameh Mosque of Kermanshah (Jadeed) dates back to 1848. The mosque was designed in Qajar style, with a large open area, arched alcoves, two eighty fourmeter high minarets, and its large dome covered with multicolored tiles. The structure is an example of traditional Iranian architecture and is composed of a large hall accompanied by four Iwan (alcoves). Inside, a four-iwan was decorated with beautiful tile-work, mirror work and used special elements such as muqarnas and stucco.The 'Mehrab' (prayer niche) was decorated with tiles bearing Kufic scripts as well as Islamic geometric patterns. On the outside, the minarets exhibit brickwork and turquoise tile-work. The mosque also features a wind-tower which is very rare in Iranian architecture and is a perfect example of paradise style.The facade of the mosque is embellished with finials, plinths, turrets and other features. The details of the decor are both traditional and of a unique design. The dome is particularly impressive, standing over fifteen meters in diameter and crowned with a beautiful turquoise tile muqarnas. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.
