Overview:
The Walls of old city of Tughlaqabad are one of the largest and best preserved medieval fortifications in India. Built with red sandstone and quartzite rubble masonry, the walls are approximately 5 km long, making it one of the most prominent and impressive fortifications of the medieval period. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
The walls of Tughlaqabad are exceptionally thick, reaching a height of up to 30 m from the ground. Its entrance was guarded by four towers situated at the four corners of the walls. Inside the fortification, there were several citadels, courtyards and other buildings. You must visit one of these historical places in India on your India tour
Interesting facts:
The red sandstone used to build the walls of Tughlaqabad was brought from the Mines of Fatehbad and Sarai Kale-Khan which were set up by the Sultan himself.
