Overview:
Wajir pur-ki-Gumbad is an impressive and beautiful sandstone fort located in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. Located in the Agra district, it lies to the east of the Yamuna River and is approximately 2 kilometers away from the city of Agra. The fort is believed to date back to the mid 16th century and is most recognized for its iconic octagonal domed structure. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
The most prominent feature of Wajir pur-ki-Gumbad is its iconic octagonal dome structure. The dome is made of red sandstone and stands 8 meters high from the ground. It is well supported by four large red sandstone pillars and four small ones. The structure is exquisitely carved and features several flower and leaf patterns. It also has a large central courtyard.
