Visva Jhopa Cave In India: History,Facts, & Services
Overview:
Visva Jhopa Cave is one of the most important rock formations of National Park of Gorumara, located in the western part of Jalpaiguri district in West Bengal. It is situated at a distance of 20 km from Alipurduar and 70 km from Jalpaiguri. The cave stands tall at 50 metres and its walls are layered with a variety of stalactites and stalagmites that resemble the temples of Bishnupur. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
Visva Jhopa Cave offers guests stunning views of teeming forests and jungle life. This cave is an integral feature of the national park and is filled with thick vegetation and micro-ecology. The rock formations are such that they look like they have been placed in perfect unison. The area of Visva Jhopa used to be a Buddhist monastery earlier, but the monastery along with a temple were destroyed by the forces of Indian ruler, Tipu Sultan.
