The Vaisistha Temple is an ancient Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu, located in the picturesque village of Vaisistha, near Tiruchirapalli, Tamil Nadu, India. This ancient temple has been called one of the most sacred places of worship in the whole of India, and was built by the great Chola King Raja Raja I during the late 10th century. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
The Vaisistha Temple is known for its characteristic architecture. Its central (main) shrine is a large pillared hall, with a gopuram in the front that stands 48 ft in height, four additional shrines, and two entrance halls. The wall paintings, stone sculptures, and frescoes that adorn the temples walls are impressive pieces of art created during the Chola dynasty.
