Potra Kund In India: History,Facts, & Services
Overview:
Potra Kund is located at the base of a hill in the town of Narsinghgarh. It is a man-made pool, made up of natural spring water. There are several steps leading up to the pool, and it is believed to have been in use since at least the reign of the Gond Kings of Narsinghgarh in the late 18th century. The water is said to be crystal clear and very cold, even in the summer months. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
The main feature of the Kund is Potra Devi, the goddess associated with this pool. It is said that she is a fierce and protective deity, who protects the town from evil forces. There is also a shrine near the pool, dedicated to her and the other gods associated with it. The pool is also used for local religious ceremonies. Many locals believe that the water of Potra Kund has healing and magical properties. It is also said that any wish made in the pool will come true.
