Ghereagad or Surgad Fort is a medieval fort located in Manoharpur Taluka of Satara district, Maharashtra. It is positioned at a distance of 48 kms from Satara City. The Ghereagad fort stands at an altitude of 917 meters above sea level. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
Ghereagad Fort is constructed at a higher altitude providing a stunning view of surrounding hilly terrains. Upper parts of the fort still have a few dilapidated structures while some portions of the ruined fort wall and watch towers are still visible. The walls of the fort were reinforced further in the year 1751. You must visit one of these historical places in India on your India tour
Interesting facts:
Ghereagad was the capital of some Maratha rulers, who controlled the region west of the Satara district and even fought against the Peshwas. It was also the famous Dwaraka of West India, as per a legend associated with the fort.
