Tripolia Gate, Kella Nizamat In India: History,Facts, & Services
Overview:
The gate is also referred to as ‘Sheetala pol’ or ‘Cherry pol’ and is located on the Jaipur-Amber road and has been a major part of the city’s history. It is the only city gate still standing in its old form, and is in the fine blend of Rajput and Mughal architectural styles. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
The gate is constructed from large blocks of stone and is 45-feet wide and 65-feet in height. It has seven arched entrances, four on either side and one in the center. The center entrance also has an ornately decorated, ‘Sharaf’ or ‘Cupboard’ above it. The gates also contain stone tablets with traditional geometric designs, which were used mainly to protect the city from intruders.
