Overview:
Siva temple is an ancient temple located in Narsinghpur district of Madhya Pradesh, India, dedicated to Hindu Lord Shiva. It is locally known as Kakanmath temple or Kankali temple and is considered as one of the oldest temples in the area, dating back to the 10th century. The main deity of the temple is Lord Shiva, but the temple is also dedicated to Goddess Parvati, Lord Vishnu and Lord Ganesh. The temple complex also consists of a lingam, a chariot, Nandi and Lord Ayyappa. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
The temple consists of a unique four-mouthed Shiva lingam and a natural cavern in its basement. The lingam is believed to be the origin of the river Narmada. The entrance of the temple is guarded by a gigantic monolith of Lord Vishnu, which is believed to be around 1,000 years old. Inside the temple complex, a chariot made of stone is kept, which is around 2,200 years old. You must visit one of these historical places in India on your India tour

The temple was believed to be built by the family of King Yayati, which ruled the region during the 10th century. During the 15th century, the temple was renovated by the Maratha rulers of the region. The chariot inside the temple complex was believed to be built by King Ashoka during the 2nd century BC as a sign of honor to the local people.
