Overview:
The Stone Sluice With Nandipottan’s Inscription is located on the banks of the River Kaveri in the Rajalipatti village of the Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu. It is the only one of its kind in the world and holds cultural, archeological and religious significance. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
This stone sluice was built in the 16th century and recently found in 2010. The construction of the stone sluice was attributed to the legacy of the Chola period. It is 9 m long and 6 m wide, it is scientifically and archaeologically significant. The most striking feature of this sluice is the inscription of Nandipottan, a Choloe ruler, on the rocks of the sluice. You must visit one of these historical places in India on your India tour

The inscription of Nandippottan which is seen in this sluice is the only inscription in the world which is related to the Chola period.
