Overview:
avanarayanaswami Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu, located in Tiruchanoor, Andhra Pradesh, India. It is a very ancient and sacred shrine and is believed to be one of the oldest shrines devoted to Lord Vishnu. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
The temple is a beautiful and peaceful shrine, which is conducive to meditation, prayer and worship. It has a large main hall and several smaller shrines and pillared pavilions all around. The temple has many breathtaking carvings, images and sculptures all over the walls. The inner sanctum of the temple is built upon a raised platform, where the idol of Lord Bhavanarayanaswami, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, is placed in a seated position. The origin of this temple dates back to the days of the mythological legend, Ramayana. According to legends, Sri Anjaneya or Hanuman, the divine messenger of Rama, worshipped Lord Vishnu at this temple. The temple was further developed by the kings of the Vijayanagara dynasty after they conquered Andhra Pradesh.
