Overview:
nd Pillayar Temple, Mangudi is a temple situated in the center of the town of Mangudi in Tamil Nadu, India. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva and his son Pillayar. The temple was constructed around the 5th century, making it one of the oldest temples in the area. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
The temple is famous for its murals, depicting scenes from the Ramayana and the Mahabharata. It has also been recently renovated and has a number of sculptures and carvings which add to its grandeur. There is also a 3 storeyed tower, known as 'Gopuram', made from granite. The Gopuram is surrounded by a number of pillars and is topped with a wooden chariot.
