Shahi Masjid, Mangalore In India is a medieval masjid or mosque that was built during the rule of Tipu Sultan in the late 18th century. Located in the old city part of Mangalore, it is one of the important religious buildings of the region and remains a pilgrimage site for Muslims. The masjid is renowned for its unique architecture with Hindu and Islamic motifs. It was built in 1784 at the command of Hyder Ali Khan, the father of Tipu Sultan and is also known as Tipu Sultan’s Mosque. The mosque is also one of the few complexes in India that has maintained its old structures and grounds. It is one of the most famous mosque in India which you must visit.

Architecture:

The Shahi Masjid in Mangalore India is a 16th century marvel of ornamentation and grandeur. The mosque was built by Qutb-ud-din Mubarak Shah, the ruler of the Vijayanagara Empire in 1540 AD. The mosque is a mixture of Indo-Saracenic and colonial architecture, with a grand dome atop it, which is topped with five pavilions. The mosque has multiple entrances, which are decorated with intricate carvings and sculptures. The four corners of the mosque are heavily decorated with stucco work and colourful painted tiles, which gives the building a beautiful appearance. Inside the premises of the mosque, there is a courtyard, which houses a domed prayer room and a small minaret. The mosque has been declared as a protected monument by the Archaeological Survey of India. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.

The visiting hours of Shahi Masjid, Mangalore are dependent on the Islamic prayer times. Generally, the masjid opens for prayer five times a day, from sunrise to sunset.
