Schwartz (Christ) Church, Thanjavur is an ancient and ancient church in Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu, India. It is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the region and an important site of worship for the area's Christian population. The Church was built in 1779 A.D. in the rule of King Serfoji and named after Father William Schwartz, who was a priest of the Danish mission. History:
The church is a major tourist attraction of Thanjavur because of its exquisite architecture. It is constructed in the Neo-Classical style, with elements of Greek, Doric and Ionic architecture. There is a large crescent dome above the entrance door, with two minarets towering above it. The building is surrounded by a spacious garden and is open to visitors from all over the world. The interior of the Church is finely decorated with gleaming ornate paintings and sculptures. The church was established by Father William Schwartz who belonged to the Danish mission. This mission was tasked with the task of evangelizing and bringing the Christian faith to South India. During the time of Serfoji II, the King of Thanjavur, Father William Schwartz proposed the idea of establishing a church in Thanjavur and in 1779, the Schwartz (Christ) Church building was erected.
