Ruined Jaina Temple , Chettipatty In India: History,Facts, & Services
Overview:
The ruined temple is located in the Manamadurai village in the Nagapattinam district of the Tamil Nadu state of India. The temple is dedicated to Jainism and is believed to have been constructed in the 17th century by the Maravarman dynasty. The temple is at a distance of 4 km from the town of Manamadurai, in the state of Tamil Nadu. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
The main temple is a single-storeyed structure, built in the Dravidian style of architecture. It has pillared corridors which have sculptures of gods and goddesses like Brahma, Saraswati and Lakshmi. The main deity of this temple is Adinatha, a Jain Tirthankar. Apart from the main temple, there are also several small shrines around the temple complex. These shrines are dedicated to the various Tirthankars of the Jainism tradition. You must visit one of these historical places in India on your India tour
Interesting facts:
• This is the only surviving Jain temple in the Nagapattinam district. • It is believed that this temple was a gathering place for the Jain ascetics in the 17th century. • The festival of Mahamastakabhisheka is celebrated at this temple every year.
