emple With Three Lingas , Salvankuppam Overview: Rock Cut Shiva Temple With Three Lingas , Salvankuppam is a Hindu shrine located in the town of Salvankuppam, Tamil Nadu, India. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, and features three lingas ( statue of deity Shiva ) carved out of black granite rock. The lingas are believed to be over 1000 years old and represent the three very different aspects of Lord Shiva - Lord Shiva in his role as creator, protector, and destroyer. Prominent features: The temple features three lingas carved out of black granite rock. It also has a large hall and other smaller shrines. The temple roof is made of granite stones and has carvings of Nandi (the bull of Lord Shiva) and his four sons Agni, Vayu, Ganga, and Surya. The Nandi is seen kneeling on one knee, with a halo surrounding his head. You must visit one of these historical places in India on your India tour

The Rock Cut Shiva Temple With Three Lingas at Salvankuppam is believed to have been constructed during the 9th century AD by the Pallava dynasty. The temple is believed to have been constructed for Shiva, who is also known as Kailashnathar by the locals. There is also evidence of a large water tank (sankula) in the region which is believed to have been constructed by the Chola kings. The temple is also said to have been renovated in the 14th century AD by the Vijayanagara empire.
