Overview:
Megalithic cists and cairns, Vengur is a Neolithic megalithic site located in the archaeological rich area of Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala, India. It consists of a single cist and scattered cairns. The cist at the centre of the site is an enclosure with a raised outer platform and circular stone walls. The cist is presumably the centre of an ancient ritual or burial site. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
The most prominent feature of the megalithic site at Vengur is the large rectangular cist, which stands at the centre of the site. The cist is approximately 3.4 m long, 1.4 m wide and 0.6 m deep. The cist appears to have been enclosed by a raised outer platform and circular stone walls. The cist is constructed from large slabs of granite and is covered with a thick layer of soil.
