Overview:
Megalithic cists and cairns are archeological sites in India known for their ability to provide a glimpse into the Iron Age and basic understanding of megalithic culture. The main feature of this site is two burial chambers made of clay bricks and cobblestones. These chambers are crowned with capstones or cairns. They are located near the village of Nedungunram, around 4 km from Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
The megalithic site consists of two megalithic cists. The larger cist is 7.4m long and the smaller one is 5.8m long. They contain pottery fragments and other artifacts, made from stones and slate. The cairn on the larger cist is 3m high and the one on the smaller cist is 2.5m high. You must visit one of these historical places in India on your India tour

One of the historical monuments of India,it tells the story of a bygone era.
It is believed that the cists were constructed by the Iron Age culture in South India between the 12th and 14th centuries CE. This is based on the artifacts found in the cists, which suggest a possible Iron Age culture.
