Overview:
Janardana Temple is an ancient Hindu temple located in the Nalgonda district of Telangana state, India. It is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and is popularly known as Adikesavarama Temple. The temple has been in existence since at least the 5th century CE. The temple is believed to have been built during the rule of the Ikshvaku dynasty. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
The Janardana Temple is a three-storied structure built in an architectural style known as Vesara. The intricate carvings and sculptures that adorn the temple walls, ceilings and pillars give the temple a beautiful and awe-inspiring look. The main shrine at the temple is an eight-armed statue of Lord Vishnu worshiped as Janardana. There are also shrines dedicated to gods like Shiva, Ganesha, and many others. Interesting facts:
The temple has been declared as a Protected Monument by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). The temple also houses some ancient inscriptions in Sanskrit and Telugu that provide valuable information about the history of the temple. A twelve-day annual festival is celebrated in the month of Karthika at the temple.
