Overview:
or Qutbuddin Mahmad Khan's Tomb is located in Bhopal, India and was built around 1699 by Mughal Empress Nur Jahan. It is a unique combination of Mughal architecture and Hindu traditions. The tomb is significant for its grand entrance, crafted out of sandstone pillars and its interiors made with pietra dura method. The most remarkable feature of the tomb is the vaulted ceiling that has a large dome in the centre, decorated with delicate mirror embedded in it. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
The Hazira or Qutbuddin Mahmad Khan's Tomb has a number of prominent features that make it unique. The vaulted ceiling has a large dome in the center, adorned with intricate designs and is also surrounded by four small domes. The dome is embellished with intricate mirror, and the walls are decorated with the pietra dura, a method of inlaying of semi-precious stones, ivory and marble in the walls. The walls also have several calligraphic artworks done in gold and silver. The most notable feature is the exquisitely carved entrance, which has four pillars made of sandstone.
