Brief History:

Haji Ali Dargah is one of the most renowned landmarks in the city of Mumbai. It is a religious complex which contains a mosque and Dargah. The Dargah was constructed in 1431 in memory of the Sufi saint Pir Haji Ali Shah Bukhari. He was a wealthy businessman who gave up all his worldly possessions before making a pilgrimage to Mecca. The mosque is built on an islet located 500 yards (460 m) from the coast in the middle of Worli Bay. The mosque is accessible by a path from the main road and the entrance to the mosque is guarded by a marble archway. Inside the complex, there are domes, minarets, and an inner courtyard where devotees can offer prayers. The Dargah is visited by both Hindus and Muslims alike, who come to pay their respects to the saint. It is one of the most famous mosque in India which you must visit.

Architecture:

The Haji Ali Dargah complex in Mumbai, India houses the shrine of the Muslim saint Pir Haji Ali Shah Bukhari. It is situated near the Mahalaxmi Race Course. The structure of the complex includes a main hall with a central dome and four minarets, set on an elevated platform on a rocky outcrop surrounded by the Arabian sea. The main hall is made of white masonry with a massive central archway, which is flanked by two other smaller arches.The main chamber of Haji Ali Dargah contains a cenotaph, or tomb, of Haji Ali Shah Bukhari. The walls of the chamber are decorated with marble patterns inlaid with semi-precious stones.The inner and outer courtyards of the complex are adorned with elaborate Islamic architecture such as mashrabiya screens and carved jalis. The minarets, or towers at the corners of the structure, are also adorned with intricate design and carvings. The upper levels of the towers provide a breathtaking view of the Mumbai skyline.The whole complex is illuminated during the festival of Urs, a traditional celebration of the passage of Haji Ali Shah Bukhari's soul to heaven. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.
