Overview:
urisvara Temple , Madambakkam is an ancient Hindu temple located in the Madambakkam area of the Chennai district, Tamil Nadu. It dates back to the 11th century AD, with some evidence indicating the presence of Pallava King Narasimha Varman I in the 10th century AD. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, the presiding deity called Dhenupurisvara. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
The temple stands on a high pedestal with a few walking steps connecting the pedestrian path to the base. It is surrounded by a two tiered gopuram (tower) and a number of vimanas (ornamented roofs). The main sanctum of the temple has a beautiful Nandi (the divine cow) and a beautiful Panchaloha (five metal) idol of Lord Shiva. Other structures in the temple complex are two mandapams (platforms), two pillared halls, and two holy tanks. You must visit one of these historical places in India on your India tour
Interesting facts:
The temple is believed to have been constructed by the Chola dynasty and is managed by Dharmapuram Adheenam, an important religious center of the Saivaite sect of Hinduism. The place is considered to be particularly auspicious for newly-married couples seeking blessings of Lord Shiva and has been a popular pilgrimage site for several centuries.
