Overview:
Dharmaraja Rock Cut Throne is a structure located in Mamallapuram (also known as Mahabalipuram), Tamil Nadu, India. It is one of the oldest monuments in the city and is an example of the Pallava dynasty’s architecture. The throne is situated on the top of the rock which is five meters tall and is believed to have been carved out of a single rock. The structure features carved monolithic chairs and lions. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
The most striking of the features of the Dharmaraja Rock Cut Throne is the single lion sitting at the bottom, which measures 4 feet (1.2 m) and is believed to have been carved out of a single rock. The lion with its mane and long tail have been perfectly sculpted. Apart from this, there are two beautiful chairs on either side of the throne, which are made of a single rock.
