Daulat Khana-Ekhas In India: History,Facts, & Services
Overview:
Daulat Khana-Ekhas is a fine example of Mughal architecture and stands out as a unique monument among the many lesser palaces, mansions, and pavilions that comprise the Fatehpur Sikri complex. Built around an open courtyard, this impressive palace is dominated by an octagonal pavilion in the center, which is surrounded by four large pavilions on each side. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
The building features several intricately designed corridors, two pools, a mosque, a bath house and an inner chamber that was used for private religious rituals. Of particular note is the exquisitely carved marble screens in the interior and the intricate carvings on the door frames and columns. Interesting facts:
It is believed that princess Jahanara used the central pavilion to conduct literary, musical and intellectual salons and conversational gatherings. The palace also has an interesting connection with the poet and mystic Mohammed Rumi.
