It is bounded by the River Ganges to the north and east, by the Grant Trunk Railway to the south and by Goriola Bazaar to the west. It is one of the oldest parts of Patna and is known for its historical significance as the seat of the former Mughal Empire during the rule of Shah Jahan. The area was also the site of the famous Battle of Patna in 1717, when the forces of the British East India Company took control of the city.
