Cemetery is an old colonial cemetery located in the Alipur neighbourhood of Delhi, India. It is one of the oldest colonial cemeteries in Delhi and is believed to have existed since the early 19th century. This national monument of India portrays the history and culture of the country.
History:
Alipur Cemetery is known for its beautiful graves, tombs, and mausoleums crafted in stone and marble from the 1880s until its closure in 1951. Some of these graves bear the signatures of famous British administrators who played an important role in the history of India. Alipur Cemetery is known to be the burial place of Edward Impey, the first ever British Lieutenant-Governor of Bengal. Other recognizable names include Alexander Borthwick, the youngest son of the Chief Justice of Bengal and General William Rous, one of the leaders of the Second Maratha War.
