Our Lady of Perpetual Help is a Catholic devotion to Mary, the Mother of Jesus. It originated in the 13th century in Germany, and is now enshrined at the Church of St Alphonsus Liguori in Rome, Italy. Its purpose is to honor Mary and seek her intercession in times of need. History:

The devotion to Our Lady of Perpetual Help dates to the thirteenth century in Germany. A picture of the Virgin Mary, painted by an unknown artist, was found in a church near Munich. This painting showed the Virgin Mary in an attitude of sorrow, with the Child Jesus appearing to be supported by an angel. News of the picture spread and became a popular pilgrimage destination among the faithful. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Fiji.
