History:
The first stone of the church was laid on August 28, 1888, and the cornerstone was laid on the same day. Building works, which were based on designs by August Kitzberg, were completed in 1901. In 1911, a large bell tower was added to the church by Woldemar Vaut. The church underwent a major renovation and restoration in the late 1990s. On January 1, 2000, it was re-opened to the faithful who can now enjoy its collections of gold, silver and other religious artifacts. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Estonia.

The Jesus Resurrection Cathedral stands 63 meters (approximately 206 feet) tall. It has three naves, each of which is 24 meters (around 79 feet) wide. The walls of the church are 4 meters (13 feet) thick. The church interior is decorated with marble and mosaic tiles, as well as frescoes and icons.
