History:

St. Alexander's Orthodox Church is named after Saint Alexander Nevsky, a legendary Russian prince and military leader who is credited with defending Russia from invasion in the 13th century. The original wooden church that stood on the site was likely built around 1720. In 1768, the church was replaced by the present Baroque-style structure, designed by Dimitri Choglokov. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Estonia.
