Haapsalu Baptistikogudus is a Baptist church in the city of Haapsalu, Estonia. It is one of the oldest churches in the city, having been established in 1864. The church is part of the Unified Association of Estonian Evangelical Christians, a regional branch of the Baptist World Alliance. History The Haapsalu Baptistikogudus was founded in 1864, the initiative being taken by a Danish missionary, Joakim Bulgesen, who had arrived in Estonia in 1862. Initially, the church was named 'The Evangelical Baptist Congregation of Haapsalu'. In 1866, the church purchased a building for worship, which was located at the corner of Linnuse and Luise streets. The church was active in the local community throughout the late nineteenth and early twentieth century, organizing social activities, advocating for educational and evangelical reforms, and helping to establish a Baptist school in 1889. During the Soviet occupation of Estonia, the church was closed and its members were subject to persecution. Its activities were again re-established in the late-1980s.
