Kafna medhanilem Church is an ancient Ethiopian Orthodox church located in the heart of Eritrea in the Eritrean Highlands. It is said to have been established by the first Christian from Ethiopia, Patriarch Yohana Tebba, who migrated to Eritrea in the 5th century. It is known to be the oldest Christian church in Eritrea and also the oldest in the African continent. Kafna medhanilem Church is still used for Christian masses and services, as well as for patriarchal ceremonies and religious funerals. It has also secured its place in the history books through its reported visionaries and miraculous events.
