Kafna medhanilem church In Eritrea: History,Facts, & Services

Kafna medhanilem Church is an ancient Ethiopian Orthodox church located in the heart of Eritrea in the Eritrean Highlands. It is said to have been established by the first Christian from Ethiopia, Patriarch Yohana Tebba, who migrated to Eritrea in the 5th century. It is known to be the oldest Christian church in Eritrea and also the oldest in the African continent. Kafna medhanilem Church is still used for Christian masses and services, as well as for patriarchal ceremonies and religious funerals. It has also secured its place in the history books through its reported visionaries and miraculous events. Apart from its spiritual importance, the church also serves as a pilgrimage site, as well as a museum, where artifacts and manuscripts of ancient Eritrea can be found. Kafna medhanilem Church also houses many Eritrean religious relics, such as the oldest Bible written in the Ge’ez language known to exist in Africa and the world.
