Stolnica Marijinega vnebovzetja is the main basilica and pilgrimage site of the Catholic Church in Ljubljana, Slovenia. It is dedicated to the Assumption of Mary and stands on a hill in the middle of the city. The church was built in 1701-1706 and soon became a popular site for pilgrims and worshipers from across the country. The interior of the church is richly decorated with the Gothic style and features a beautiful altar and stained glass windows. The church also holds many important artifacts and relics, including a 16th century painting of Mary and the infant Jesus in an elaborate gilded frame. Every year, hundreds of thousands of pilgrims travel to the basilica to venerate the Virgin Mary and her son. The site is also the location of many religious festivals and events throughout the year, including the traditional May Procession, the Church’s Sunday services, and the annual sunset mass on August 15th, the Feast of the Assumption.
