The Church of St. Simon was originally built in 1220. It was destroyed in 1230 in a fire that also destroyed much of Barcelona's original city center. The church was reconstructed in 1238, and it is believed to be the first church in the city to have been made in the Gothic style. Over the centuries, the church has undergone several renovations. It was heavily damaged during the Spanish Civil War and eventually restored and electrified in the late 1930s.
