Church of St. Maximus is a historic Roman Catholic parish church located in the Kensington neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The structure was designed by prominent architect Napoleon LeBrun and completed in 1836. The church was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2019 and was designated a local landmark by the Philadelphia Historical Commission in 2020. Constructed in an Italianate style, the church stands as an impressive reminder of the area’s rich religious and architectural history. History:

The Church of St. Maximus was founded on October 17, 1832, when the pastor of St. Augustine’s Church in Germantown sought to establish a new parish in the Kensington area of Philadelphia. The church was formally dedicated on April 3, 1836, and was named after the fourth century saint, Maximus of Turin. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Croatia.

The Church of St. Maximus is notable for its ornate architecture and design, which features a blend of Italianate, Gothic and Romanesque influences. The building is constructed of local Wissahickon schist and features a trimmed entrance with double doors.
