The original cathedral of St. Anastasia was constructed by the Venetian Doge Pietro II Orseolo in the 11th century. It was further extended sometime in the 13th century as a three-aisled Romanesque basilica. The bell tower was added later, in the 15th century during the Gothic period. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Croatia.
