The Domaine de Maizerets is a park in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada. First owned by the Jesuits, this area was designated to be used for forestry until 1967. Just a few years later, the Société d’aménagement et de développement régional, or the Society of Regional Development and Planning began construction on the site, completing its transformation into a public park in 1974. Originally, the park featured only a few walkways and a beach, but in 1979 the city began to develop and expand the site. They built shelters and gazebos along with refreshing amenities such as small ponds and bike trails. In 1980, Domaine de Maizerets received official recognition when it was declared a Historic and Natural Monument of Quebec. In 1989, the park was widened with area of Verdun. This expansion almost doubled its original size and also allowed for the creation of a botanical garden and many other attractions. The past decade has seen many changes to the park, from the development of its educational installations and nature observation points, to the recent arch of welcome, the last phase of the park’s reparation. Today, the Domaine de Maizerets is host to many yearly events such as festivals, concerts, outdoor film screenings and other cultural activities. Its 750 hectares make it one of Quebec City’s greatest natural resources and largest parks.
