History:
Cap-de-Bon-Désir Interpretation and Observation Centre (LBC) is a nature reserve located on the banks of the St. Lawrence River in the Les Bergeronnes, Quebec region of Canada. Established in 1995, the Centre was created with the objective of encouraging conservation and appreciation of natural spaces through education, research, and eco-tourism. In 1995, the Centre was founded by a coalition of environmental organizations, including the Migratory Birds Convention (MBC), and began operations under the direction of the David Suzuki Foundation (DFS). Initially, the Centre’s research focused on the protection and conservation of migratory birds and their habitats. The Centre also conducted research on the surrounding environment and wildlife. LBC served as an important educational hub, providing guided tours, lectures, workshops and nature hikes to inform the public about the importance of conservation and the protection of Biodiversity. In 2005, LBC was re-launched by a partnership between the DFS and the Quebec Department of Sustainable Development, Environment and Parks (MDEFP). The Centre continues to serve as a key educational and research facility focused on protecting, conserving, and restoring the natural environment. LBC employs research methods such as bird surveys, habitat restoration and wetland creation to further its mission of promoting environmental stewardship.
