The main objective was to respond to the challenges of providing access to higher education and ensure that students from rural areas and other parts of the country and abroad have access to the latest technologies in agriculture, natural resources, and related sciences. Today, BUAN is the largest agricultural university in Botswana and offers a variety of courses and degrees in a range of disciplines. It is divided into four faculties: the Faculty of Agriculture, the Faculty of Natural Resources, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, and the Faculty of Applied Life Sciences. The University has seven colleges which provide specific academic and research programs: the College of Agriculture, the College of Natural Resources, the College of Veterinary Medicine, the College of Applied Life Sciences, the College of Business, the College of Hospitality, and the College of Environmental Sciences. Programs cover research and training in various disciplines, including agricultural sciences, economics, management, natural resources, veterinary sciences, environmental sciences, tourism, and hospitality management. The university has also placed emphasis on developing agricultural capacity of rural communities, with investments in rural research projects, knowledge management, farmer training, and other initiatives. Since its inception, BUAN has worked to develop innovative programs and strategies for the sustainable use of natural resources and conservation of the environment in the country. Furthermore, the university has become increasingly involved in research and development, providing support to the national government’s efforts to achieve the goals laid out in the Vision 2016.
