The Free Church of Botswana traces its roots back to the 1950s when a group of African members of the London Missionary Society separated from that body. History The Free Church of Botswana was first founded in 1956. It was originally known as the Botswana Mission Church, but then changed its name in 1988. It is part of the family of Churches of the Later-Day Saints in Africa. The church was born out of a desire to bring the gospel to the local African people and to promote African culture and sovereignty. Facts The Free Church of Botswana claims to have over 82 congregations and about 55,000 members. It has five indigenous languages including Setswana, Kalanga, Ngwato, Karanga and Sekalanga. It is an interdenominational church that practices an autonomous form of Christianity.
