This document formally placed their kingdom under British protection. • The monument is a three-sided construction made of black granite, set on a granite plinth. • The main feature of the memorial is the impressive image of the five chiefs assembled in a circle ofleadership. The statue is nearly 4 metres talland is thought to weigh some 4.5 tonnes. • Atop the plinth, there are five monuments that represent the five chiefs with their own totem animals.
