The Templo de San Pedro in Potosí, Bolivia was built between 1743 and 1745 in the Churrigueresque style of the period. The church was designed by Francisco Siabato with the intention of creating an impressive building that would stand as a symbol of Potosí’s wealth and power in the 18th century. When it was first constructed the church held a wealthy collection of art and religious artifacts. The main sanctuary was constructed in a traditional Latin cross layout and the church was decorated with paintings by Leonardo Nuebro with help from Simón Redruello and Gerardo Arenas. The church had a library and was filled with ornate wooden seating, gilded adobe walls and an opulent altar covered in velvet from Genoese merchants.
