History:
Tiahuanaco Stadium is a football (soccer) stadium located in Tiahuanaco, Bolivia. It is the home stadium for local team Aurora FC and a venue for international matches such as World Cup qualifiers. The stadium was built in 1966, but was renovated in 2001-02. The renovation of the stadium was funded by the Bolivian government and a number of local and international organizations, including FIFA, who provided technical help, and the International Olympic Committee, which provided financial support. The total cost of the renovation was US$8 million. The renewed stadium was inaugurated in December 2002, with a match featuring the Bolivian national team. The stadium's capacity was increased from 32,845 to 42,135 spectators, as a result of the renovation. The stadium has electronic displays, new lighting, stands, and improved drainage. Tiahuanaco Stadium remains the largest stadium in Bolivia and one of the leading international football venues in the country.
