Plaza de San Pedro is an important historical plaza located in the middle of the city of La Paz, Bolivia. Located close to the Cathedral, the plaza has been a major part of the city since its foundation in 1548. The plaza has had a great influence on the culture and spiritual life of the local people. History of the plaza dates back to 1548, when the city was founded by the Spanish as a colonial city. During this period, the plaza was known as the Plaza Mayor and it become the official center of the city. It served as the main hub for theatrical performances, administrative meetings, religious ceremonies and other public events.
