The traditional method of worship at Phurpa Lhakhang involves several practices that are distinct from anywhere else in the world. The temple is visited by devotees who bear offerings of prayer flags, incense and other ritual items. The monks recites from ancient scriptures and offers blessings to those present, while the devotees engage in circumambulation, or clockwise rotation around the temple in order to receive blessings. In addition to these practices, rituallooking and chanting are done in order to invoke the protection of the local gods and deities. Ritual instruments such as cymbals and trumpets are used to create powerful vibrations that help to drive away negative energies.
