Phobjikha Valley Crane Information Center is a conservation facility located in Bhutan, in the Phobjikha valley. The center was established in 2009, and aims to teach visitors about the endangered species of cranes that inhabit the area. The Phobjikha Valley Crane Information Center is an important educational and conservation center dedicated to the endangered black-necked cranes who have migrated to the Phobjikha Valley in Bhutan for the past centuries. History:

The Phobjikha Valley Crane Information Center was first established in 2005 as a project funded by the Royal Government of Bhutan, the Natural Conservation Fund, and the Global Environmental Facility. The primary mission of the center, which is located in the Gangtey area of Bhutan, is to provide a permanently staffed center with information on the endangered Black-necked cranes that migrate to the Phobjikha Valley each winter. The center works with local communities to protect, research, and monitor the cranes as well as to educate the public about them and the valley environment. The center has since grown to include a crane-viewing platform, an exhibition hall, a library, and learning center where visitors can learn about conserving the valley environment and the Black-necked crane. Ongoing research and monitoring are conducted around key conservation issues such as climatic variation, environmental change, and the decline of the cranes’ wintering habitat in the valley. In recent years, the center has partnered with the WWF Bhutan to launch the Community-Based Wetland Conservation and Livelihood Improvement (CBWC) project which focuses on restoring wetlands and promoting sustainable land use practices in the Phobjikha Valley. 1. The Phobjikha Valley Crane Information Center (PVCIC) is located in Bhutan’s isolated Phobjikha Valley, and it’s dedicated to conservation and education efforts related to the rare and endangered Black-Crowned Crane. 2. The PVCIC was officially opened in 2015 by the former King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and serves as a long-term bird monitoring station. 3. It is the first non-governmental environmental institution in Bhutan, and the only one dedicated solely to the conservation of the endangered Black-Crowned Crane. 4. The center provides educational programs to promote sustainable development of local communities, as well as training courses and workshops in topics such as bird watching, photography, conservation, and research. 5. The PVCIC also works with various organizations globally in order to provide the best possible protection and education for this species. 6. Each year in November, around 15,000 to 20,000 Black-Crowned Cranes migrate to the Phobjikha Valley from Siberia and Northern Mongolia, making it the most important resting ground for this species in the world. 7.
