Worship Method:

The worship methods at Lhakhang Nagpo (Black Temple) in the Haa Valley of Bhutan involve chanting, prayer, and offering of khadars (traditional Bhutanese scarves). Buddhist practitioners recite mantras from sutras and kīrtans for purification and receive blessings from powerful Dharma protectors, such as Mahākāla or Dorje Legpa (Vajrasattva), to eliminate obstacles, counter negative influences, and protect the fruition of their offerings. Offerings such as water, incense, tea, and flowers to the Deity are presented in the form of a mandala arrangement. Another form of worship that is often practiced at the temple is torma (sacrificial cakes). Hand-molded from barley flour, tsampa or other grains, they are offered to the gods, accompanied by mantras and prayers. They may be placed on a shrine or simply laid out in the temple courtyard with colorful powders to represent the mandalas. People make prostrations, often accompanied by mantras, for the purpose of purifying any negative karma they may have accrued.
